Five people died Thursday while eleven others were injured in a collision between two vehicles at an intersection in Harare, police said. The malfunction of the lights already questioned.
A live drama this Thursday morning at the intersection of Borrowdale Road and Harare Drive avenues in the Zimbabwean capital. Two vehicles collided at this intersection, killing five people instantly, while firefighters accounted for 11 wounded.
« The ZRP confirms that five people died and 11 others were injured at the intersection of Borrowdale Road and Harare Drive at 6.30 a.m. (4.30 a.m. GMT) today. A transport truck traveling along Harare Drive, due east, collided with a Mazda van traveling along Borrowdale Road towards Domboshava, « Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed on Twitter , country police.
The ZRP also indicated that the accident occurred because one of the motorists did not give priority to the other.
But there is also that the lights of this intersection were extinguished. « The traffic lights were not functional at the time of the accident, the parties failed to give way, » the police said.
This calls for the caution of road users when they arrive at intersections whose lights do not work.
« Motorists need to be cautious and take proper account of road safety as traffic lights that are not functional are approaching, » the police added.
