The Algerian Fateh Benferdjallah validated his ticket for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, in the 86 kg category, after his victory in the semi-final against the Egyptian Khaled Messaoud Elmoatamadawi, on Sunday for the third and last day of freestyle wrestling at the « Africa-Oceania » tournament, which is held in Hammamet, Tunisia.
Fateh Benferdjallah qualified for the next Olympic Games 2021 in Tokyo, by beating the Egyptian Khaled Messaoud Elmoatamadawi, in the 86 kg category. He thus joins his compatriot Kherbache Abdelhak who got the best of the representative of the States of Micronesia, Junjun Asebias, in the 57 kg category. For his part, Ishak Boukhors was beaten in the semi-final by Augusto Midana from Gabon in the 74kg category.
Mohamed Fardj (97kg) and Djahid Berrahal (125kg), who are still in contention for the semi-finals of the « Africa-Oceania » tournament, will also try to get their ticket for the Olympics. On the other hand, Adem Boudjemline (97 kg), Sid Azara Bachir (87 kg), Abdelkrim Fergat (60 kg) and Abdelmalek Merabet (67 kg), are already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling.
In women’s wrestling, the best Algerian performance was achieved by Rayane Houfaf (57 kg) who just missed a qualification to the Olympics, after finishing in 3rd place, losing in the semi-final to Fatoumata Yarie Camara from Guinea. The wrestlers Doudou Ibtissem (50 kg) and Amel Hammiche (62 kg) took the 4th place, while Lamia Chemlal (53 kg) finished in 5th place.
It should be recalled that 21 countries are participating in the « Africa-Oceania » tournament, including 14 African countries, Tunisia (host country), Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Namibia, Senegal, Congo, Chad, Cameroon, Madagascar, Mauritius and Sierra Leone. The representatives from Oceania are 7: Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands and Palau.
