After coming second in the last presidential elections in Uganda, behind the veteran Yoweri Museveni (76), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias « Bobi Wine », leader of the opposition, seems to be ready for a musical comeback. The reggae, dancehall and afrobeat singer is compiling an album of music to be released later this year.
Having failed to unseat incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who was re-elected with 58.6% of the vote, Bobi Wine, the 39-year-old singer who denounced the « most fraudulent election in Uganda’s history » with 34.8%, may soon return to the active music arena. He will certainly be critical of the Yoweri Museveni regime, which has been in power since 1986 and is currently considered one of the longest serving leaders in Africa and the world.
Today, Bobi Wine is one of the most popular Ugandans in the world for his fight for justice in his country. Yet before he decided to join politics, his music was not well received. But since the musician dared to challenge a political dinosaur like Yoweri Museveni, Bobi Wine has become a much-loved and listened-to Ugandan, and his messages are getting through.
Early last week, Bobi Wine released a new song titled ‘Katengo’ and according to reports, it is the first of many more to come. Howwe.biz reports that the Firebase singer is in the studio compiling a new music album entitled ‘Freedom’. It will feature collaborations with several local artists including Ykee Benda, Navio, Dre Cali, among others.
