The request for provisional release of Moussa Dadis Camara’s former aide-de-camp, Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité, better known by the nickname Toumba Diakité, will be examined by the Supreme Court of Guinea Conakry. The decision is expected this Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
« The Supreme Court will rule tomorrow Tuesday on the request for provisional release of our client. We expect a favorable outcome especially since Toumba is sick and needs to go for treatment, » said Paul Yomba Kourouma, one of Toumba Diakité’s lawyers, on Monday.
The former member of the National Council for Democracy and Development (CNDD), who tried to assassinate the former head of the military junta, Moussa Dadis Camara, was arrested in Senegal in late 2016. Extradited to Guinea, Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité has been in detention since 2017, at the Central House of Conakry. He is charged with several offences including his alleged role in the 28 September 2009 massacre.
The massacre, which took place in the grounds of the 28 September stadium in Conakry, cost the lives of more than 150 people and left a thousand injured. In addition, more than a hundred women and girls were raped during the violence, according to a United Nations report.
This Tuesday, the Supreme Court will examine his request for provisional release and may overturn or confirm the decision of the Dixinn Court, which had refused the request for provisional release of Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité alias Toumba.
