Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah could strengthen the Egyptian Olympic team for the 2021 Olympic Games. The Egyptian Football Federation is keen to do just that. The latter is trying to convince the leaders of the English club, and for the last time, to obtain the release of Mo Salah, who could help the African U23 champion team, for the conquest of the Olympic medal, at the Japanese meeting of this summer.
The 29th edition of the 2021 Men’s Olympic Football Games will take place from 22 July to 7 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Africa will be represented by Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire and South Africa. The Egyptian Football Association is still hoping that Mohamed Salah will take part in the tournament so that the Olympic Pharaohs can win the title, which has already been won by Nigeria in 1996 and Cameroon in 2000.
Liverpool striker Mo Salah has been included in the provisional list of the African U23 champions since last April. But Liverpool has not yet given the green light. The president of the Egyptian Football Federation, Ahmed Megahed, is not giving up on the case. He says he will try his last chance to convince the English club to release Mohamed Salah.
Egypt is confident of seeing its superstar in Tokyo. « Salah wants to participate in the Olympics and we are working to make that happen, » said the Egyptian football boss. The Olympics officially start on 23 July. But the football tournament starts on the 22nd and runs until the 7th of August. Egypt is in Group C with Spain, New Zealand and Ivory Coast.
