The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will not participate in the next Olympic Games scheduled for July-August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. They failed to qualify after their 0-0 draw against Chile in the second leg of the play-offs on Tuesday in Antalya (Turkey), three days after a 2-1 defeat.
After losing the race for qualification on the continental level, barred by Zambia (3-2 and 2-1), in March 2020, Cameroon had a chance to validate its ticket through the intercontinental playoff matches. To do so, they had to get the better of Chile in a double confrontation played in Antalya, Turkey. Unfortunately, things had started very badly in the first leg, on 10 April, with a defeat of the Cameroonians (1-2).
In the second leg, on Tuesday, April 13, the Cameroonians had to reverse the trend, by winning by at least two goals, if they wanted to participate in this festival of world sport, in Japan, this summer. They were eventually held to a draw, despite dominating in all areas.
At the end of the 90 minutes of regulation time, the two teams left back to back, a result that made the Chileans happy as they obtained their first qualification for the Olympic Games. Zambia is the only African team to have qualified for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which will take place from 22 July to 7 August 2021.
