Sentenced to 3 months in prison, Ghanaian actress Rosemond Brown known as « Akuapem Poloo » already has the moral support of some personalities in her country and even abroad, such as American Cardi B. A human rights advocate, Mary Ohenewaa Afful, has revealed that the incarcerated actress needs psychiatric help rather than prison. According to the private lawyer, Poloo’s behaviour on social media should be examined by a psychiatrist.
In an interview with Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman on Power FM on Friday night, human rights defender, Mary Ohenewaa, said the social media sensation’s behaviour proves that all was not well with her mentally. « It is clear that she is not mentally stable, if you analyse her statements and her lifestyle. Obviously, a person who is in her right mind would never do what she did, » Ohenewaa argued.
« Akuapem Poloo’s lawyer should not have changed her plea from not guilty to guilty, but should have requested a psychiatric examination for the actress, » Ohenewaa added. It must be said that in her first appearance, she pleaded ‘not guilty’. But during Akuapem Poloo’s re-appearance on Wednesday 14 April 2021, the Ghanaian actress pleaded « guilty ». Following this slip, the Accra Magistrate’s Court convicted her and postponed her final sentencing until Friday 16 April 2021.
Rosemond Brown was jailed on Friday for three months, a decision taken by the Accra Circut Court, which accused her of having taken a photo with her 7-year-old son, while she was fully undressed. The photo was posted on social networks. She was sentenced to 90 days in prison, or three months.
