King Mohammed VI of Morocco has confirmed his desire to resolve the issue of illegal Moroccan minors in Europe. According to some reports, the Cherifian Sovereign is ready to collaborate with all European nations in order to settle, once and for all, this divisive issue.
The Sovereign reaffirmed « the clear and firm commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to accept the return of duly identified unaccompanied minors », while recalling that this cooperation set up with certain countries such as France and Spain, has allowed the return to Morocco of several dozen minors. « Morocco is willing to collaborate, as it has always done, with European countries and the European Union, for the settlement of this issue and hopes to be able to count on the good collaboration of the countries concerned, » King Mohammed VI said.
Furthermore, Morocco « regrets once again that the migration issue, including the issue of unaccompanied minors, is being used as an alibi to circumvent the real causes of the current political crisis with Spain, the origins and foundations of which are well known ».
