The election of Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020, which has been postponed several times due to the global health crisis linked to the Coronavirus pandemic, finally took place on Saturday 3 April 2021. Tangia Zaman Methila, a 28-year-old model and actress, was crowned. She succeeds Shirin Akter Shila, the 2019 winner.
Tangia Zaman Methila is the new Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020. The 28-year-old model and actress, was crowned in the final held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Dhaka. She was chosen ahead of nine other finalists for the title and the right to represent Bangladesh at the 69th Miss Universe pageant in Florida, USA, in May. Farzana Yasmin Ananna and Farzana Akter Ani were the first and second runners-up respectively.
« The winner will represent Bangladesh on the 69th main stage of the Miss Universe 2020 pageant, which will be held in Hollywood, USA, on May 16, » said Rafiqul Islam Duke, president of Miss Universe Bangladesh. « We are very optimistic about Tangia Zaman Methila. Our main focus is now the main stage of Miss Universe, » he added.
The new Miss Universe Bangladesh, Tangia Zaman Methila, who succeeded 2019 winner Shirin Akter Shela, was earlier named Miss Supranational Bangladesh 2019 and travelled to Katowice, Poland, to participate in the Miss Supranational 2019 pageant. The slogan of the Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020 pageant was ‘Confidently Beautiful’.
Besides the Miss crown, five candidates were nominated in five different categories. Farzana Yasmin Ananna was nominated as ‘Miss Congeniality’, Apana Chakma ‘Miss Shining Star’, Nidra Dey ‘Miss Photogenic’, Tangia Zaman Methila ‘Miss Body Beautiful’ and Touhida Tusnim Tifa ‘Miss Talented’.
