The 12th edition of the African Taekwondo Championships started on Saturday at the Dakar Arena sports complex in Diamniadio. For this first day, the Moroccan taekwondoists won 8 medals, including 1 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze.
The great mass of African taekwondo started Saturday morning with a participation of 16 Moroccan athletes (8 men and 8 women). At the end of the first day, Moroccan taekwondo athletes won 8 medals, including 1 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze. The precious metal was won by Oumaima El Bouchti. She won in the final, in the -49 kg category, against the Ivorian Ferimata Coulibaly.
The silver medals were won by Nada Laaraj Koutbi, in the -57 kg category, Omar Lakehal (-58 kg), Achraf Mahboubi (-80 kg) and Ayoub Bassel (+87 kg) in the men’s category and by Sabah (+73 kg) in the women’s category. The bronzes were won, respectively, by Sanaa Baïza (-67 kg women) and Faiçal Saidi (-68 kg men).
It should be recalled that 864 athletes from 54 African countries, including Senegal (host country), Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Libya, DRC, Chad, Somalia, Gabon, Rwanda, Cape Verde, South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia…. All the participants of this 12th edition of the African Taekwondo Championships, which will be held at the Dakar Arena sports complex in Diamniadio, about thirty kilometres from the Senegalese capital, Dakar, will be taking part.
