Has Senegal become a drug hub? The question no longer arises, so large seizures have multiplied in the last four months. An interrogation, more than legitimate, raised, in its delivery of this Saturday, by the newspaper Libération.
Last Thursday, the French Navy, aboard the patrol boat « Fouladou », intercepted 1260 kilograms of cocaine on two boats, 120 kilometers off Dakar. The operation, conducted in intelligence with the Spanish Guardia Civil – the drug that came from Latin America was destined for the Spanish market – allowed the arrest of five people.
Forty-eight hours before this new record seizure, the Customs had seized 43 kilograms of cocaine stashed in a Kia Sorento brand vehicle at the Dakar terminal park called « Parc Maguèye ». The vehicle, coming from Antwerp (Belgium), was shown in transit to The Gambia.
On August 14, another four kilos of cocaine were found in a bag at Mole I. Three individuals were subsequently arrested after a mousetrap. A month earlier, in June, 1107 kilograms of the same drug were seized, in two stages, by Customs, at the Port of Dakar.
A few weeks earlier, Gouloumbou Customs (Tambacounda) intercepted 72 kilograms of cocaine. The market value of all this cocaine seized far exceeds the sum of 1000 billion CFA francs.
