The fate of the Senegalese opposition leader is sealed. At the very least, the leader of the PASTEF movement is risking big, very big even, if we believe the words of the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, when he was questioned on the issue by our colleagues at RFI.
We know a little more about the fate awaiting the leader of the PASTEF movement, Ousmane Sonko, who is being prosecuted for rape by a woman named Adji Sarr. While the investigation is ongoing and the procedure for lifting the parliamentary immunity of the man who is also a member of the National Assembly is underway, the Senegalese head of state, Macky Sall, seems to know what will happen to the opposition leader. This is confirmed by his remarks on RFI, during an interview on Monday and broadcast on Tuesday morning on the French channel.
« It’s always the same thing. This is a subject on which I am not going to talk about, because even with the national press, I am not pronounced, so you will see the harm I will do in talking about this subject on your airwaves. Once again, it is a regrettable affair, I don’t know what it’s all about. I cannot wish my worst opponent such a situation. Now, there is an accusation, there are procedures, we really should not involve the President in things that are none of his business.
To the question whether « the President has nothing to do with it », Macky Sall’s answer is indisputable: « It’s clear, I have enough to do than to plot for such low things ». No doubt the President will tell us more about what he knows and does not wish for his worst opponent. The Senegalese people are hanging on his lips.
