Put to the test diplomatically by Morocco, the Polisario Front plans to organise a large march in Spain, which will start in Andalusia on 20 May and end in Madrid on 19 June 2021. This « march of solidarity with the Saharawi people » will cross several Spanish cities, according to the Polisario movement’s press agency. The aim is to « show the commitment of Spanish civil society to the just Sahrawi cause, » the statement said.
« A joint action… to draw the attention of the Spanish government and to examine the central role of Spain in the political agenda as an administrative force in Western Sahara and as a main sponsor to push for a solution to the conflict, » says Brahim Ghali’s movement.
As a reminder, the UN Security Council will meet on Wednesday 21 April to discuss the conflict in Western Sahara, which opposes Morocco to the Polisario Front, since 1976. At this meeting, the head of the UN mission there (MINURSO) will present a state of play. This will be the first meeting of its kind since hostilities resumed last November after a 30-year ceasefire.
