Put to the test diplomatically by Morocco, the Polisario Front plans to organise a large march in Spain, which will start in Andalusia on 20 May and end in Madrid on 19 June 2021. This « march of solidarity with the Saharawi people » will cross several Spanish cities, according to the Polisario movement’s press agency. The aim is to « show the commitment of Spanish civil society to the just Sahrawi cause, » the statement said.
The Polisario Front, which is being pushed around diplomatically by Morocco, which is multiplying its actions, plans to beat the streets of Spain from 20 May to 19 June 2021. « In this great form of solidarity, the different components of Spanish civil society would be dedicated to the cause of our people in light of the indifference of the international community, and the complicity of the central government of the kingdom of Spain with Morocco, » denounces the Polisario Front.
« A joint action… to draw the attention of the Spanish government and to examine the central role of Spain in the political agenda as an administrative force in Western Sahara and as a main sponsor to push for a solution to the conflict, » says Brahim Ghali’s movement.
Despite the restrictions related to the Coronavirus pandemic in Europe and especially in Spain, the Polisario Front also claims a « great festival, which will take place with the participation of dozens of solidarity associations and many political parties and trade unions.
As a reminder, the UN Security Council will meet on Wednesday 21 April to discuss the conflict in Western Sahara, which opposes Morocco to the Polisario Front, since 1976. At this meeting, the head of the UN mission there (MINURSO) will present a state of play. This will be the first meeting of its kind since hostilities resumed last November after a 30-year ceasefire.
