The head of the Moroccan government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani, received a phone call from the leader of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismaël Haniyeh. The Islamic Resistance Movement, which defends the Palestinian cause, wants to open a new page in its relations with Morocco. The meeting between the two men revolved mainly around the precarious situation in Jerusalem, especially in East Al Quds and the Gaza Strip.
The head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismael Haniyeh, informed Saad-Eddine El Othmani on « the dangerous events taking place in the Palestinian territories, particularly in East Al Quds and the Gaza Strip, the attempts to Judaize the Holy City and the seizure of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood as well as the repeated incursions into the Al Aqsa Mosque, » said a statement from the Moroccan government.
Eddine El Othmani reiterated to the Palestinian leader « the categorical rejection of the Kingdom of Morocco of all measures by the occupation authorities that affect the legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Quds Al-Sharif or violate the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The head of government also assured Ismael Haniyeh that Morocco still considers the Palestinian issue as its « national cause ».
The head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismael Haniyeh, asked last week, the Arab countries with diplomatic relations with Israel to suspend them and recall their diplomats accredited in Tel Aviv for consultation in response to the penetration of Israeli forces on the Esplanade of the Mosques in Al-Quds.
As a reminder, Hamas had described the resumption of relations between Morocco and Israel as « a political sin that does not serve the Palestinian cause » and « a decision that encourages the occupation and denies the rights of the Palestinian people.
