The head of the Moroccan government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani, received a phone call from the leader of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismaël Haniyeh. The Islamic Resistance Movement, which defends the Palestinian cause, wants to open a new page in its relations with Morocco. The meeting between the two men revolved mainly around the precarious situation in Jerusalem, especially in East Al Quds and the Gaza Strip.
Eddine El Othmani reiterated to the Palestinian leader « the categorical rejection of the Kingdom of Morocco of all measures by the occupation authorities that affect the legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Quds Al-Sharif or violate the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The head of government also assured Ismael Haniyeh that Morocco still considers the Palestinian issue as its « national cause ».
As a reminder, Hamas had described the resumption of relations between Morocco and Israel as « a political sin that does not serve the Palestinian cause » and « a decision that encourages the occupation and denies the rights of the Palestinian people.
