Morocco began its month of Ramadan on Wednesday. On this occasion, King Mohammed VI instructed the Mohammed V Foundation to launch the 22nd edition of the food distribution operation for the benefit of 3 million people, in order to spend this blessed month in peace and serenity.
In a press release, Mohammed V Foundation announced that the 22nd edition of the food distribution operation « Ramadan 1442 » will be launched on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, corresponding to the first day of the holy month of Muslims in the Cherifian Kingdom. The beneficiaries are 3 million. They are 600,000 households nationwide, including 459,504 from rural areas.
Initiated in 1999, this year’s operation is a continuation of the previous one, despite the health emergency, the Royal House press release said. « In this time of pandemic, national solidarity and mutual aid are essential to relieve modest families weakened by the socio-economic impact of the health crisis, » the same source added.
The operation is organised with the financial support of the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior, through the General Directorate of Local Authorities and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs. The food support is composed of seven food products, including 10 kg of flour, 5 litres of vegetable oil, 4 kg of sugar, 1 kg of lentils, 1 kg of vermicelli, 850 grams of tomato concentrate and 250 grams of tea.
It will thus help relieve families of their food needs during the holy month of Ramadan, the Mohammed V Foundation said. The operation will take place in strict compliance with the health measures enacted to curb the spread of the Coronavirus and its variants in the kingdom. To date, Morocco has recorded more than 503,000 cases, of which 489,000 were cured and 8,915 died.
