The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, presided over the launching ceremony of the implementation of the project of generalization of social protection, on Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Fez. Thus, three conventions were signed before the sovereign.
King Mohammed VI, in his policy to extend compulsory health coverage to 9 million people in the kingdom, presided, on Wednesday at the Royal Palace of Fez, over the launching ceremony of the implementation of the project to generalize social protection.
According to royal instructions, this project will benefit, initially, farmers, craftsmen and professionals, traders, professionals and independent service providers subject to the single professional contribution scheme, the self-employed or the accounting scheme, and will be extended to other categories of Moroccans.
« This societal project, which benefits from a follow-up and a particular attention from Your Majesty, constitutes a real social revolution, because it will have direct and tangible effects on the improvement of the living conditions of citizens, the preservation of the dignity of all Moroccans, in addition to its participation in the integration of the informal sector », indicated Mohamed Benchaaboun, Minister of Economy and Finance of Morocco.
Moreover, the minister said that the government has prepared a framework law whose outline was presented to the king during the Council of Ministers of 11 February 2021 and which was approved by Parliament. This framework law will also ensure the implementation, in the best possible conditions, of this reform as instructed by King Mohammed VI.
According to Mohamed Benchaaboun, the implementation of this major social project requires the development of management methods, particularly those related to the governance of social security bodies, with a view to creating a unified body for the coordination and supervision of social protection systems, adding that 22 million people will benefit from health coverage in 2022.
