Miss Mexico, Andrea Meza, won the 68th edition of the prestigious Miss Universe beauty pageant, which was held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Florida, USA on 16 May 2021. This brings to three the number of Mexican beauties crowned Miss Universe since the first organisation of the said ceremony.
The Mexican candidate Andrea Meza honoured her native country by winning the title of Miss Universe, on Sunday, in the final phase of this new edition of the famous beauty contest, which pitted 74 candidates of different nationalities against each other.
After parading and skilfully answering various topical questions, Miss Mexico won over the public, becoming the third Mexican model in history to wear the Miss Universe crown. Before her, Lupita Jones and Ximena Navarrete won this prestigious beauty competition, which brings together the most beautiful women in the world, in 1991 and 2010 respectively.
Andrea MezaWith this victory, Andrea Meza succeeds the South African Miss Zozibini Tunzi, winner of Miss Universe 2019, the only one to have exceptionally held the title of Miss Universe for two consecutive years. This is because the 68th edition of Miss Universe, originally scheduled for 2020, could only take place this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is not the first time Andrea Meza has participated in an international beauty contest. In 2017, she took part in the Miss World pageant where she managed to be the first finalist. This year, she finished as the winner ahead of the first runner-up from Brazil, Julia Gama.
On the other hand, although many internet users expected Miss France, Amandine Petit – who caused a sensation in her Marianne outfit – to finish in the top 5, she only managed to make it into the top 21. Nevertheless, the young woman from Calvados did not lose out.
