Two Malian civilians were killed in the night from Saturday to Sunday during the attack by armed men at a toll station in Diéma, in western Mali, we learned from security sources and from ‘a witness.
No indication was available Sunday morning on the motivations of the attackers, in a country plagued by jihadist violence but also banditry and trafficking.
« Four armed men killed two agents who worked at the Diéma road toll station, » said a security source.
Two of the attackers “had a scarf on their face. They fired before arriving at the toll booth. A gendarme and a civilian who controlled the barrier fled after the first shots, « said a relative of one of the victims.
“Those who were armed went to the two wickets. My cousin wanted to flee, he was riddled with bullets. The second agent was killed inside the payment counter. (…) Afterwards, they left without touching the money, « he added.
« We do not yet know if they are jihadists or armed bandits, » added a local customs official on condition of anonymity, « but usually armed bandits take money or something after an attack. . Nothing has been won. «
A representative of the workers at the toll booth stated that, “as long as the security
