The President of the Malian Transition, Colonel Assimi Goïta, signed yesterday, Friday 11 June, a decree appointing the members of the government composed of 28 members including three deputy ministers. Several military personnel are appointed to strategic ministerial positions in this new government team, headed by Dr. Choguel Koballa Maiga.
The new President of the Transition in Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, has appointed the members of his government in which several key ministries such as Defence, Security and National Reconciliation are military, said Friday 11 June the secretary of the Malian Presidency, Ali Coulibaly.
In the Ministry of Defence and Veterans, Colonel Sadio Camara is appointed, while Mahamadou Kassogué will occupy the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. Lieutenant-Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga is to head the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation. Colonel Major Ismaël Wagué becomes the Minister of Reconciliation, Peace and National Cohesion, in charge of the Agreement for Peace and National Reconciliation.
Abdoulaye Diop is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Alousséni Sanou is appointed Minister of Economy and Finance. Moussa Ag Attaher, who was the spokesperson in Europe for the Tuareg independence movement MNLA, has been reappointed to head the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in charge of civic education and citizenship building.
For his part, Ibrahim Ikassa Maïga, a prominent member of the Mouvement du 5-Juin/Rassemblement des forces patriotiques (M5/RFP), a collective of opponents, clerics and members of civil society, was appointed to head the Ministry of State Refoundation. He joins this government announced as « open » and « inclusive » by Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maïga, also of the M5-RFP, at the time of his appointment.
