Eighteen peacekeepers and two civilians were wounded in a mortar attack on a military camp in northeast Mali on Thursday, plagued by violence and jihadist activity, the UN said.
An « interim report » shows 18 peacekeepers and two civilians injured, spokesman for the UN mission in Mali, Minusma, Olivier Salgado, told AFP.
Fifteen mortars fell « in and around » Tessalit camp in the Kidal region, near the Algerian border, according to an internal UN report consulted by the AFP. The camp personnel took shelter in a bunker, according to this text.
The Tessalit « supercamp » is home to a Chadian UN battalion, French Operation Barkhane forces and Malian soldiers. The two Malian civilians were injured in the French side of the camp, according to the internal UN document.
