He has finally passed. The dreaded cyclone Belda reached Monday in the afternoon, the northwestern coast of Madagascar. As expected by the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), it generated winds with an average speed of 165 km / h and discharged a significant amount of water of 200 mm.
But more fear than harm. So far, no deaths attributable to bad weather have been recorded, according to Malagasy authorities.
« So far, there is no death, there is no wounded, there is no missing, but just evacuations of people to avoid the worst, » said to the AFP an official of the National Office of Risk Management and Disaster (BNGRC), Colonel Eleck Olivier Andriakaja.
