L1-L2: Canal+ recovers TV rights until the end of the season février 4, 2021 by Babacar NDIAYE Leave a Comment A few weeks after the defection of the Mediapro group, Canal+ has reached an agreement with the Professional Football League to broadcast all League 1 matches, and a large part of League 2 matches, until the end of the 2020-2021 season. A huge relief for French clubs. L1-L2: Canal+ recovers TV rights until the end of the season! Canal+ will broadcast Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 until the end of the season. It is now a certainty, there will be no black screen for League 1 and League 2 matches for the end of the season 2020-2021. Canal+, the historical broadcaster, has finally reached an agreement with the Professional Football League to recover the rights to the two major French championships following the defection of the Mediapro group. The Professional Football League and the CANAL+ Group announce a global agreement concerning the audiovisual rights of Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT for the 2020-2021 season. From the 25th day of Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT, and until the end of the 2020-2021 season, CANAL+ Group will have exclusive live and full audiovisual rights to all Ligue 1 Uber Eats matches and eight of the ten Ligue 2 BKT matches on each day ». The press release published after the Board of Directors of the LFP reads as follows. « In addition to the rights to these matches, the CANAL+ Group will have full magazine rights during the week and at weekends. Following the unsuccessful call for tenders this week, the Professional Football League and the CANAL+ Group are pleased to have found a global solution that will enable the Uber Eats League 1 and BKT League 2 matches to be exposed to a large audience for the 2020-2021 season », adds the text published by the authority. The LFP had its back to the wall. This was excellent news for the French clubs, who were living in fear following the hasty departure of the Sino-Spanish group. All the more so as the encrypted channel did not participate in the last call for tenders, as did beIN SPORTS. While Amazon, DAZN and Discovery tried an approach, the LFP finally gave its approval to the historical broadcaster to try to renew a relationship of trust. According to RMC, Canal finally agreed for the rest of the season to pay its lot 3 (L1 match on Saturday 9pm and Sunday 5pm) at the full price of €168m. In addition to this sum, an additional cheque for 35 M€ will be issued to recover all the other matches (the 8 weekly matches broadcast by Mediapro). In total, C+ will therefore pay €203 million for the rest of the season. With the amounts already paid for the matches broadcast so far, the TV rights for the current financial year will therefore amount to approximately €670 million. This is far from the €1.153 billion initially hoped for. But it’s still a nice sum in view of the current context… Partager :TwitterFacebookWhatsApp
