Prince Misuzulu Zulu is now back at the Royal Palace in Khangelamankengane. The 46-year-old prince owes his coronation to the will of his mother, regent Shiwiye Mantfombi Dlamini, wife of Goodwill Zwelithini, who died on 30 April. This letter from the Queen is said to be dated 23 March, the day before she was appointed regent.
The new king’s aunt, Princess Thembi Ndlovu, said she was happy that there was now an undisputed heir to the AmaZulu throne. « What we have agreed on is that we will support the throne no matter who is on the throne. Even if we like or dislike the person, but as a royal family, we must support them, » the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Zulu nation’s prime minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has been criticised by the late AmaZulu Goodwill Zwelithini king’s sister, Princess Thembi Ndlovu, over the chaotic scenes at the Khangelamankengane royal palace on Friday night. A heated exchange ensued between Buthelezi and Prince Thokozani Zulu after the reading of the will of the late Queen Shiwiye Mantfombi Dlamini, wife of Goodwill Zwelithini, which recommended her son, Prince Misuzulu Zulu, to become King AmaZulu.
This dramatic exchange of words was seen as a security threat by some members of the AmaZulu royal family, prompting Prince Misuzulu Zulu’s guard to intervene. While Buthelezi accused Thokozani of disrespect, Ndlovu Thembi said Mangosuthu Buthelezi could have handled the situation better. « It is very difficult to speak when there is Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who rebukes harshly even before hearing what you are about to say. When I asked Thokozani what he wanted to say, he said he wanted to congratulate the new king. But he never got the chance to do so, » she said.
Meanwhile, Thembi Ndlovu and another brother of the late King Zwelithini, Prince Mbonisi, have endorsed Prince Misuzulu as the heir to the AmaZulu throne.
