Through its special envoy, John Kerry, the United States of America has sent a message of congratulations to King Mohammed VI of Morocco, while welcoming his personal commitment to the fight against climate change.
US Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry has praised the commitment of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to the fight against climate change. Speaking on the sidelines of the virtual ministerial meeting held on the theme: « Climate and Development », the envoy said that the Moroccan sovereign demonstrated, during the COP22 in 2016 in Marrakech, his personal commitment to the fight against climate change, affirming that: « the kingdom is an important partner in the international fight against climate change ».
« We look forward to deepening our partnership » at the 26th United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26) from 1ᵉʳ to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow, » added John Kerry, US special envoy for climate, in a tweet.
The UK-initiated « Climate and Development » ministerial meeting brought together ministers and officials to identify next steps to address a range of priority issues for climate-vulnerable communities ahead of COP26.
In addition, the US State Department highlighted King Mohammed VI’s « bold leadership » in making Morocco « a world leader » in renewable energy investment and achieving its goals under the Paris Climate Agreement.
