The former Minister of Communication, Abdelaziz Rahabi, did not appreciate the last statement of the permanent representative of Morocco to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, about the right to self-determination of the « Kabyle people ». Abdelaziz Rahabi, on this issue, calls for firmness against Morocco.
Morocco’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, seems to have really touched Algeria’s most sensitive point, namely the Kabyle people. He spoke of the « valiant Kabyle people » who « deserve to enjoy their right to self-determination. This provoked the anger of the Algerian diplomat and former Minister of Communication, Abdelaziz Rahabi. This one asks for a firmness against the kingdom.
« The call of Morocco to sedition in Algeria is not a simple diplomatic act but a hostile action to its unity and a programmed escalation in the strategy of permanent tension in the region, » said the Algerian diplomat in a post on social networks on Saturday. « Algeria, people and state, must react with strength and firmness, » said Abdelaziz Rahabi.
« Ramtane Lamamra, who stands as a fervent defender of the right to self-determination, denies this same right to the Kabyle people, one of the oldest peoples of Africa, which undergoes the longest foreign occupation, » commented Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations, in reaction to the allegations of the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, on the issue of Western Sahara, during the general debate of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held by video conference on July 13 and 14.
The new Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, denounced « a particularly dangerous drift ». According to him, Algeria is « entitled to expect a clarification of the final position of the Kingdom of Morocco on this incident of extreme gravity.
