Engaged for two years, singer Jennifer Lopez and former baseball player Alex Rodriguez announced that they had officially ended their relationship in a joint statement, a copy of which was released to the US newspaper Today. However, they pledged to continue supporting each other even after the split. They also expressed appreciation for the fond memories they had shared together. « We have realised that we are better suited as friends and look forward to staying that way, » they said.
« We will continue to work together and support each other in our common business and projects. We wish each other and our respective children the best. Out of respect for them, the only additional comment we have to make is to thank everyone who has sent us kind messages of support, » the statement reads.
Some American media reported their separation in mid-March, when Jennifer Lopez was in the Dominican Republic for a shoot and her fiancé Alex Rodriguez was in Miami. The next day, the two lovebirds denied this information, calling it « inaccurate », while acknowledging that they were « working on some things ».
