As part of his four-day state visit to the Hambol region, Alassane Ouattara held his first rally in Niakara, at a Nalo Bamba stadium that was swarming with a public that had won over his cause.
In the evening, the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara met with the cadres, the religious guides and the traditional chiefdom of Hambol at his residence of Katiola
During this meeting, the Ivorian head of state at the end of the mandate raised the question of the question of his candidacy for the next election scheduled for October 2020 and also made suggestions concerning the next candidatures.
« I can tell you that these elections will go well, they will be transparent, they will be fair as in 2015. I hope that those who have lost call the winner to congratulate him. I said the winner, I did not say Alassane Ouattara. But that does not mean that I will not be a candidate. My reflection continues because the Constitution authorizes me, « said the President of the Republic.
He reassured everyone that there is no plan to oust anyone and that everyone who wants to go to the elections will be able to go.
The Head of State asks the government to ensure that there are not 50 candidates or 12 candidacies like in Guinea-Bissau.
« I just had the results of ECOWAS in Guinea-Bissau, there were 12 candidates. But of the twelve candidates, three of them have 98% of the vote. It means the other eight was a mess. And, the more candidates there are, the less time it takes to tell Ivorians or the country what candidates want to do for their country. A presidential election must be a competition. Our compatriots must have candidates who can come to speak to the Ivorians the necessary time and say what they plan to do, « he explained.
« I already said it, and I repeat it. Let the competition be as open as possible, « he insisted.
