After the process of filing and validating candidacies, the election campaign will start today and will last until the eve of the December 4 vote. The six candidates in the running will travel throughout the country for the next three weeks to present their campaign programs to Gambians. The outgoing president, who is facing five candidates including well-known figures in the Gambian political arena, has already entered the fray. He starts his campaign today by the stage of Barra, located on the left bank of the entrance of Banjul. As for Halifa Sallah, he is visiting some districts of the Gambian capital today.
As a reminder, the Electoral Commission validated, last weekend, six candidates out of the twenty or so who had filed their candidacies. In addition to the outgoing president, Adama BARROW, the historical opponents, Oussainou DARBOE, Halifa SALLAH, a former defector from Yahya JAMMEH’s party, Mamma KANDEH, and two political novices, Essa FAAL, who headed the investigations at the Reconciliation Commission, and Abdoulie JAMMEH.
