The prince of Congolese rumba, Fally Ipupa, would be the highest paid African artist. Until 2020, the « Eagle » held the record for musical productions, with almost 50 concerts played per year.
In terms of fees, when he made his debut in 2006 with the album « Droit chemin », Fally Ipupa was already demanding 20,000 dollars per production. His fee later rose to $25,000 and then to around $50,000. « The secret is work, being focused on your music, your work, not calculating others. Because when you calculate others you become bitter, » he said in a recent interview.
Note that Fally Ipupa will represent the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 1st edition of « YAM Carnival », which will be organized in the British capital, from 28 to 29 August 2021. He is the only Congolese invited to this music festival in London. He is one of a handful of African artists selected to participate in this event dedicated to African culture as a tribute.
