Eric Zemmour is in Ivory Coast. The far-right candidate made a surprise trip to Abidjan to meet with French expatriates. He also visited the French forces present in the country. But if the Ministry of the Armed Forces had given its agreement, Eric Zemmour did not respect the rules set in advance and was slapped on the fingers.
Eric Zemmour wanted to make a move: to appear alongside French soldiers in foreign operations for Christmas Eve, while Emmanuel Macron, him, canceled a trip to the troops, because of Covid.
The Ministry of the Armed Forces had given its green light, as it did for other presidential candidates: the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon was able to visit a military base in Guyana … The socialist Anne Hidalgo did the same in Brest.
The Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly saw red.
« We asked for discretion, there is instrumentalization, the conditions are not respected, » attacked an adviser to the ministry who threatened: « We will draw the consequences.
In other words, Eric Zemmour risks being persona non grata in the French military camps.
The candidate is nevertheless looking for a presidential stature. The temptation of a publicity stunt remains the strongest.
