South African billionaire and SpaceX/Tesla founder Elon Musk told Saturday Night Live (SNL) that he is revealing for the first time that he has Asperger’s syndrome, a type of autism spectrum disorder. « I’m actually making history tonight as the first person with Asperger’s on SNL…, » he said.
As a guest on the US satirical comedy show SNL (Saturday Night Live) on Saturday night, South African billionaire Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla and SpaceX, revealed he has Asperger’s syndrome. This form of autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder of genetic origin, characterised by significant difficulties in social interactions.
« I’m actually making history tonight as the first person with Asperger’s on SNL, or at least the first to admit it. So I won’t have much eye contact with the cast tonight. But don’t worry, I’m pretty good at performing ‘human’ in emulation mode, » Musk said.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, several reports have suggested that Dan Aykroyd, a former cast member of the show, was actually the first person with Asperger’s to host SNL, back in 2003. « Look, I know I say or post strange things sometimes, but that’s how my brain works. To all the people I’ve offended, I just want to say: I reinvented electric cars and I’m sending people to Mars on a rocket. Do you think I could have been a cold, normal guy? « Musk said on the opening night of Saturday Night Live.
The third richest person in the world according to Forbes, Elon Musk joked about smoking marijuana on US comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast. He also poked fun at his son’s name (X Æ A-Xii)… Musk was with his mother Maye Musk on set, as the show played on the theme of Mother’s Day, celebrated on May 9 this year in the US. She told Elon: « I’m thrilled for my Mother’s Day present ».
