Six people were killed and 15 wounded Wednesday in a fire caused by the leak of a pipeline in northern Egypt, said the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The incident took place in the village of Itay al-Baroud, in Beheira province between Cairo and Alexandria, Ministry of Health spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.
The wounded were transported to the hospital, he said.
The fire was controlled and the leak clogged, said in a statement the director of the pipeline authority, Abdelmoneim Hafez.
According to Hafez, the leak was caused by « thieves » who broke the pipeline to siphon it and recover oil.
