Madina passes into the hands of the Armed Forces of DRC (FARDC). The locality of Beni territory in North Kivu province is no longer under the control of the rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
The announcement was made by the DRC military authorities. A video posted on Twitter indeed shows General Peter Cirimwami number 2 of the army in the area transmitting during a rally, the congratulations of high authorities including the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi to the elements engaged in the fighting against the ADF.
« I will take this opportunity to convey the congratulations of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff, to the FARDC and especially to the troop which conquered Madina, » said the officer.
As part of Operation Sukola 1 launched since 2015 to put out of harm’s way, the ADF, this reconquest had its share of sacrifice. In a statement released last week, General Léon-Richard Kasonga, an army spokesman in the Beni region said that the FARDC had lost « 60 valiant fighters » in fighting against the ADF.
Pushed out of Uganda where it was born, this militia settled more than 20 years ago in the DRC where it committed many atrocities (rapes, robberies, murders, etc.).
