Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso pleaded in Brazzaville on Monday for Africa not to be marginalized in resolving the Libyan crisis, calling any settlement that does not take into account the continent « ineffective » and « counterproductive ».
“Libya is an African country and the victims of the Libyan conflict are mainly in Africa. Therefore, any strategy to resolve the Libyan crisis tending to marginalize the African continent could prove to be completely ineffective and counterproductive ”, declared Mr. Sassou Nguesso before African and Western diplomats.
Mr. Sassou Nguesso is the chairman of the African Union (AU) High Level Committee on Libya.
« I feel, once again, in the urgent need to suggest new initiatives, so that the next AU summit will raise the resolution of the Libyan drama to the top priority, » he added.
Sassou Nguesso, who received the wishes of the diplomatic corps accredited to his country in Brazzaville on Monday, made reference, among other things, to the Turkish initiative to send troops to Libyan territory.
