The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called the slow pace of vaccination against the Coronavirus pandemic in Europe « unacceptable » at a time when the situation has been very alarming for some time.
While Europe is facing the « most worrying epidemic situation in months », the vaccination campaign is still not meeting expectations, mainly because of a slowness that the World Health Organisation denounces.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the European branch of the WHO denounced that « the slow pace of vaccination is prolonging the pandemic », pointing out that the number of new cases in Europe has risen sharply over the past five weeks. « Vaccines are our best way out of the pandemic. Not only do they work, but they are also very effective in limiting infections. However, the roll-out of these vaccines is unacceptably slow, » said Hans Kluge.
« Let me be clear: we need to speed up the process by increasing production, reducing barriers to delivery, and using every dose we have in stock… Right now the regional situation is the most worrying we have seen in months, » the head of the WHO’s European arm said.
