« I have the honour to inform you that your application has received a favourable opinion from the National Commission for Medicines, meeting in its session of 17 to 18 May 2021. […] The marketing authorization granted to this product has a validity of 3 years, from the date of signature thereof. It is this communiqué signed by Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health (Minsanté), which authorizes Corocur, a drug developed by Cameroonian cardiologist Euloge Yiagnigni Mfopou, to be used to treat Covid-19 patients in Cameroon.
This product, which received the approval of the health authorities on July 8 to be marketed, presented as an « improved traditional medicine », is a dry powder of Thymus vulgaris (commonly called thyme) of 50g, packaged in a 60 ml bottle. It will be used as « an adjunct to the treatment of Covid-19, » the minister says.
« We have proposed a cost of between 5,000 and 10,000 CFA francs per bottle to allow everyone to have the product easily, » said Dr. Yiagnigni Mfopou, founder of the clinic « Promoters of Good Health » in an interview with the private daily Le Jour.
The specialist says he has already treated 1,500 patients with his drug and assures that his product « works » and « has practically no side effects ». He also says that arrangements are already being made to increase production and make the remedy available to all those who need it. « We will be accompanied by souls of good will to be able to produce the necessary quantities, first for Cameroonians, then for the outside world, » he says.
