Music lovers and fans of this internationally renowned artist found it hard to believe this message published on social networks by his family. Wes Madiko, known as « the King of World Music », died on 25 June 2021 in Alençon, France, where he had been living since 2006. He died of a hospital-acquired infection.
Born on 15 January 1964 in Motaban, hundreds of kilometres from Douala, the musician Wes Madiko is the author of the hit song « Alané », from his album « Welenga ». This song, released on 13 May 1997, was a big hit in Europe and topped the charts in several countries including Austria, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. This song made him the first African artist to obtain a diamond record in France, with 10 million singles sold worldwide.
