The draw for Africa’s second biggest club competition also delivered its verdict on Friday. Two big clashes are on the agenda, including CS Sfaxien who will cross swords with JS Kabylie in the Maghreb derby, but also Orlando Pirates of South Africa who will take on Raja Casablanca. The other matches are Pyramids FC/Enyimba and Coton Sport/Jaraaf.
Author of a faultless performance in the group stages with 18 points (13 goals scored and 0 conceded) in group D ahead of Pyramids FC (2nd, 12 pts), Raja Casablanca, winner of this competition in 2018, inherited the South African team of Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinals. The Greens Eagles will play the first leg on 16 May in South Africa, before hosting the South Africans on 23 May in Casablanca.
CS Sfaxien will face JS Kabylie in the Maghreb derby. The draw for the quarter-finals of the CAF Cup has, in fact, resulted in a clash between the Tunisian representative and the Algerian JS Kabylie. The Jaraaf, which has invited itself to these quarterfinals, after finishing in first place in its group C with 11 points ahead of CS Sfaxien (2nd, 10 pts), knows its next opponent for the path to the semi-finals. The Club of Medina will face, therefore, the Cameroonian Coton Sport. An opponent already desired by the coach of the Green and White, Cheikh Guèye.
« Coton Sport is among the 8 best teams in the competition, so it is a team to respect. I don’t know much about this team, but I know that the philosophy of Cameroonian football is based on physicality with some individualities. A coach does not need a week, ten days or even a month to study his opponent. It is enough to watch his opponent over two or three games to be able to work and try to thwart him, « said the Senegalese technician.
