The final match of the 2021 CAF Champions League has been decided. It will oppose the South African Kaiser Chiefs, who defeated the Moroccan Wydad Casablanca (0-1, 0-0), to the Egyptian Al Ahly, who did not do any favours to the Tunisian Esperance of Tunis (0-1, 0-3). The final will be played at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca (Morocco) on 17 July.
The semi-finals of the CAF Champions League have delivered their verdicts. At the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, in the district of Soweto, Kaiser Chiefs and Wydad left back to back on Saturday. The result was enough for the South Africans, who had already won the first leg in Casablanca (1-0) a week ago. The Glamour Boys have now reached their first ever final in the competition and will face the most successful team in the competition, Al Ahly of Cairo.
In the evening, the Egyptians have pulverized the Tunisian Esperance Sportive (3-0), thanks to a penalty converted by Ali Maâloul (38′), a goal by Mohamed Cherif (56′) and another by Hussein el Shahat (61′). Al Ahly, who won the first leg in Tunis (1-0) a week ago, will try to win their tenth trophy in the final against Kaiser Chiefs on 17 July at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca (Morocco).
It should be recalled that Al Ahly is the most successful team in this most prestigious competition of African clubs, with 9 crowns (1982, 1987, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2012, 2013, 2020), but also the one that has played the most finals (14). With 5 titles in 8 finals played, the other Egyptian club Zamalek SC is in second place, ahead of Tout-Puissant Mazembe. Les Corbeaux de Lubumbashi also have 5 trophies in 7 finals played.
