Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as ‘Burna Boy’, has finally received his 2020 Grammy Awards trophy, months after he was announced as the winner of the ‘Best World Music Album’ category. It was a very excited Burna Boy who took to his Instagram this Thursday, June 10, 2021, to share photos of his plaque accompanied by a video clip of himself and longtime producer Leriq.
He wrote: « My parents prayed for great kids, not houses, cars or ‘things’. They asked my sisters for stellar degrees; one got a Masters in Finance, the other a distinction in Engineering. They asked me for a Grammy, and here we are. I am a product of sacrifice! Thank God and thank you all again! « .
At the Grammys, Burna Boy’s « Twice As Tall » won the Best World Music Album category ahead of Antibalas’ « Fu Chronicles », Bebel Gilberto’s « Agora », Anoushka Shankar’s « Love Letters » and Malian Tuareg band Tinariwen’s « Amadjar ». « Twice As Tall » was produced by American music mogul Sean Combs aka « Puff Diddy » and featured artists such as Chris Martin of Coldplay, Naughty by Nature, Stormzy, Youssou Ndour and Sauti Sol.
