Grammy award winner, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu aka ‘Burna Boy’ on Tuesday sparked off a debate in the Nigerian Twitter space with a tweet in which he claimed he does not make money in Nigeria as an artiste. The singer made the statement while responding to various fan tweets on the microblogging platform. The ‘Twice as tall’ hitmaker even indicated that he was not a Nigerian artiste.
Nigerian artist Burna Boy has caused confusion on social media, responding to fan tweets on the microblogging platform. One of the tweets read: « Burna boy will soon leave Twitter NG… ». The African giant replied: « I’m not even a Nigerian artist ». Another fan rebounded on the singer’s response with a tweet, which read: « But you promote African culture and deny your own homeland, all in showbiz as usual.
The ‘Twice as tall’ hitmaker then took the opportunity to reveal that he does not make money from Nigeria as he tweeted. « I am from here (Nigeria) and I live here because I love my home and my people, no past like that. I don’t make money from Nigeria, » he tweeted. His response drew mixed reactions as Nigerians took to Twitter to express their views on the singer’s comment.
One Twitter user, Omini Smoochey, while comparing Burna Boy with his compatriots like Wizkid and Davido, tweeted, « As far as genuine love and respect for fans, please leave it to Wizkid and Davido. They would rather eat raw beans than disrespect their fans directly or indirectly. They know the value of all those who support them. But Burna? Lol, that’s rubbish. « Burna fans in Nigeria, I feel sorry for you. All your efforts are being used to release this zoo album. And Burna always says he doesn’t make money in Nigeria, » tweeted another, Twitter user, Greatkd2.
