This Sunday, the Beninese voted to elect their president of the Republic. A ballot that took place calmly, but without much enthusiasm. This was enough to make the radical opponents happy, and they are not hiding it. Joël Aïvo made it very clear on his Facebook page on Monday.
This Sunday, April 11, 2021, Beninese went to the polls to elect their president of the Republic. If the election went well overall, except for a few false notes in places, observers noted a lower turnout than in previous elections.
Joël Aïvo, a failed candidate and one of the leaders of the Front for the Restoration of Democracy (FRD) who, on the eve of the election, had called for a boycott, was pleased that voters did not turn out in large numbers. It is through a post on his Facebook page, this Monday, that the professor of public law expressed his satisfaction.
« Sacred Beninese!!! Dear compatriots,
this Sunday, April 11, 2021, Benin has organized the most botched election in its history. A real electoral carnage of which no Beninese can be proud.
In front of the whole world, the international press and international observers, you refused to give your support to this electoral travesty. By deciding to stay at home and leave the Government alone to face itself, you have, once again, demonstrated your maturity and decided to give strength and vigour to the cohesion of our Nation and to democracy, » reads his page.
For the constitutionalist, by behaving this way, the Beninese people wanted to send a message to President Patrice Talon and his entourage: « The message sent this Sunday, April 11, 2021, to President Talon and the political parties that support him, is without appeal: one does not win against his people, one wins with them. This is now clear. Neither the prefabrication of the rate of participation, nor that of the score of the various candidates can change what everyone now knows, » he continued, before concluding: « To all of you, I address my gratitude for your confidence and renew my thanks for this patriotic surge.
God bless Benin.
For the moment, the real rate of participation in this election is still awaited. However, the trend that emerges from the various counts gives a large victory to President Patrice Talon, candidate for his own succession. The Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) is working to give the provisional results in the coming hours.
