The boat, with children and women on board, had left The Gambia on 27 November. An unknown number of wounded were transported to Nouadhibou hospital.
No official communication from The Gambia
« The Mauritanian authorities are coordinating relief efforts very effectively with the agencies present in Nouadhibou, » said Laura Lungarotti of the UN agency.
To date, no official communication has been received from the authorities of The Gambia from which many migrants leave in hopes of arriving in Europe.
