The Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, delivered to Prince Moulay Rachid a message from the Emir of Kuwait to King Mohammed VI yesterday. His Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, and the emirate’s ambassador accredited to Rabat attended the meeting. The two heads of diplomacy are expected to hold talks.
This visit was preceded on 21 April by discussions via video conference between the two ministers. They welcomed the strategic partnership between Morocco and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and stressed the importance of strengthening it. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammed Al Ahmad also noted that his meeting with Bourita is an opportunity to focus on the lessons to be learned from the management of the Coronavirus pandemic, particularly in terms of strengthening the health system, as well as the importance of a joint management of the pandemic.
In addition, the Kuwaiti minister highlighted « the historical and honourable positions of Morocco » towards Kuwait, recalling the first visit of the late King Mohammed V to Kuwait, in 1961, during which the sovereign had reaffirmed his full support for the country’s independence. « Morocco was one of the first countries to support Kuwait’s membership of the League of Arab States, following its independence, » he said.
This trip to the kingdom comes two days after Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah’s stopover in Algiers, where he also delivered a message to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and met his counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum.
