Morocco’s new recruit Munir El Haddadi has joined the Atlas Lions’ squad for the very first time, after a long legal battle involving FIFA and CAS. The 25-year-old is expected to make his debut for Morocco against Mauritania on Friday (19:00 GMT) in the fifth and penultimate round of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Group E.
Munir El Haddadi is overwhelmed with joy after a long journey to the Moroccan national team after a long legal battle involving FIFA and CAS. The Sevilla striker, who has only seen one cap for Spain, in 2014, coming on as a 77th minute substitute in La Roja’s 5-1 win over Macedonia in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, is set to make his debut for the Atlas Lions of Morocco soon.
Munir El Haddadi did not hesitate to express his joy: « I am very happy to join the team for the first time. We will do many great things. Like winning the African Cup of Nations and qualifying for the World Cup. I’m very happy with the huge amount of work that went into getting me here. Thank you to all the fans who have always supported me.
The Atlas Lions face Mauritania on Friday 26 March, then Burundi on 30 March, respectively for the 5th and 6th round of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2022. Munir El Haddadi should therefore make his debut for the Moroccan national team.
Morocco is, as a reminder, leader of group E with 10 points (3 wins and 1 draw) and needs only one point to validate its ticket for the final phase of this CAN Cameroon 2022.
