The draw for the Afrobasket Rwanda 2021 was made on Friday in Kigali. The Nigerian national team, D’Tigers, will face Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Kenya in group C of this competition, scheduled from August 24 to September 5, 2021.
The D’Tigers are already considered one of the title contenders. Nigeria will face Ivory Coast (50th), Mali at 77th and a Kenya inspired by coach Liz Mills who managed to inflict a buzzer-beater defeat on Angola to qualify after a 28-year wait. The special feature of this group is the presence of three West African teams: Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali.
Rwanda, the host country of the competition, shares pool A with Angola, the most successful nation (11 titles), DR Congo and the 3rd group E. Tunisia, the reigning African champions, are in Group B with Egypt, Central African Republic and Guinea. Senegal, also considered as a major player in African basketball, will play in group D, along with Cameroon, South Sudan and the 2nd group E.
