After France, the combined Moroccan-American exercise, African Lion 2021, will take place from 7 to 18 June in several regions of Morocco, including the Mehbes region in the Sahara, with the participation of thousands of military personnel from many countries and a very large number of land, air and sea equipment.
The combined Moroccan-American exercise African Lion 2021 starts from Monday, June 7, until June 18 in several regions of Morocco, including in the region of Mehbes in the Sahara, with the participation of thousands of soldiers from many countries and a very large number of land, air and sea equipment, according to the General Staff of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR). Morocco’s first partners, the United States recognised the Moroccan sovereignty of Western Sahara under the Donald Trump administration.
This 17th edition of the exercise will see the participation, in addition to the United States and Morocco, of several countries: Great Britain, Brazil, Canada, Tunisia, Senegal, the Netherlands, Italy as well as NATO, in addition to military observers from some thirty countries representing Africa, Europe and America.
« African Lion 2021, considered among the most important joint exercises in the world, aims to strengthen the manoeuvring capabilities of the participating units, consolidate their interoperability in planning and conducting joint operations in the framework of a coalition, » said the General Staff of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR).
« The Moroccan-American exercise also aims to develop skills in cyber defence, train in the conduct of air combat, support and air refuelling operations, consolidate cooperation in the field of maritime security, conduct humanitarian activities … « , it adds.
A joint multinational exercise, organised and led jointly by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, « African Lion 2021 » will include counter-terrorism training and operations.
