Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has terminated the functions of Karim Younes in his capacity as Mediator of the Republic. This was stated in a press release from the services of the Presidency of the Republic. « The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has terminated, as of today, the functions of Mr. Karim Younes, in his capacity as Mediator of the Republic, » the statement said.
According to many observers of political life, the dismissal of Karim Younes from his post of Ombudsman of the Republic is not a surprise, because of his latest public statements deemed by some « critical » of the authorities, including some ministers of the government Abdelaziz Djerad.
« The Head of State has entrusted Ibrahim Merad, Advisor to the President of the Republic for the follow-up of grey areas, to ensure the interim position of Ombudsman of the Republic, » he said. As a reminder, the now former Ombudsman of the Republic Karim Younes was appointed to this position by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on 17 February 2020.
